Mother Karen’s
Icon update, logo refresh and relaunch campaign graphics for the revival of beloved retro ski apparel brand Mother Karen’s.
Mother Karen’s was started in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1973 by two ski enthusiasts unable to find the perfect jacket for spring skiing. The partners began developing lightweight, color-blocked pullovers with a signature oversized kangaroo pouch and side-entry handwarmer pockets. The original Powdershirt® was born—and quickly became a cult favorite of the Rocky Mountain ski scene.
By the early ’80s, Mother Karen’s had gained popularity beyond the slopes. Surfers, skaters, and BMXers on both coasts could be spotted wearing the iconic Powdershirt®. Over time, the brand came to stand for something beyond skiing: fiercely independent, tradition-breaking, and tradition-making.
The classic Powdershirt® is now instantly recognizable, carrying with it all the nostalgia of the late ’70s and early ’80s. After more than 30 years, it’s back—and still made with mother loving care. The updated version features a refined fit and a durable, 80% recycled, eco-friendly, water- and wind-resistant polyester fabric specially developed with a favorite mill in Japan.
The recent relaunch also includes T-shirts, hats, and beanies. Check out the full collection at motherkarens.com.
